I know what it feels like to be relegated to sales racks, thrift stores, and hand-me-down dress shoes that don’t quite fit—but can be made to work with an insole or a stuffed toe.
I was lovingly raised by a generous, spiritually grounded, and hardworking single mother.

When my senior prom rolled around, I knew the overall cost would be a stretch for our family. I had to find the most resourceful way to make it happen—settling on a dress pattern I could afford, not one I truly loved or felt beautiful in. Feeling “without” for much of my childhood was a hard feeling to shake, but it shaped me into the empathetic, resourceful, and heart-centered community organizer I am today. For that, I am both grateful and proud. When I began exploring ways to expand the reach of my event planning business, Katie’s Kreations Events (named in honor of my great-grandmother) I knew I wanted to do something that would give back. Prom quickly came into focus—a moment that holds so much meaning for young people and their families, yet can feel out of reach for many.

That vision became Corsages & Cufflinks — a beautifully curated, boutique-style prom shopping experience created in partnership with Grass Roots Neighbors, a local nonprofit that nourishes our community through bi-monthly grocery deliveries.

Together, we’ve built an event that wraps deserving young people in love and luxury, offering them new or gently used prom attire and accessories in a setting that makes them feel celebrated and seen. Our heart-centered volunteers guide students through our boutique, helping them find the perfect outfit while reminding them that they are worthy of joy, confidence, and possibility. Even for a moment, they get to experience what it feels like to want for nothing—and to shine just as brightly as their peers. Confidence-building experiences like this can create ripples that last far beyond prom night, reshaping how these young people see themselves and what they believe is possible for their future.
